From Your Pastor's Heart
FBC :: About Us :: Pastor's Note
From September 1 issue of "First Edition", the pastor writes...
The Labor Day weekend is this weekend. It means we are in the middle of hurricane season and we keep our eyes on the tropics. It also means that college football is back on the scene, to the delight of so many. Each weekend from now until after New Years’ will carry the ups and downs of the gridiron.
At First Baptist, it means that we are in the flow of the fall season. Church activity is ramped up and places that need filling are increased. The volunteer workers of our church do so much. Their behind the scenes work makes events happen that effect so many lives. When I baptize someone, there is a smile of approval on a worker’s face because he/she had a part in that moment. This is only one such example of a multitudes of events that First Baptist workers energize into happening. Finding a place of service is essential for Christian disciples. We need you to serve, but more than that, you need to serve. Find a place of service and watch God bless your serving. Praise God for our workers. Keep up the good work. (Galatians 6:9-10)
The burden of my heart is to preach God’s word to you where you are. The past weeks have been on applying God’s word to places of despair -- “out of the depths”. This Sunday I will finish the series with “This is not what I wanted”. I want to encourage each of you to live your moment in God’s wisdom and strength. Growing as a Christian is an ever-demanding challenge that contains life’s greatest reward. God can bring us out of life’s worst pits. (Psalm 40:2-3)
We are in a season of church growth. Our numbers on Sunday and Wednesday are increasing. All of this is the result of the hard work of many, but more importantly, the blessing of God. May the Lord continue to guide us as we step out into His future for First Baptist.
We welcome Frances and Bill Grubbs and Bart Cox to our church family. May God continue to add to our numbers those who love and serve the Lord.
Have a good two weeks. Remember the promise of God to give us victory in life’s extremes - “in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Romans 8:37 KJV
